Are you tired of forever shaving your legs, under your arms, and/or along your bikini line? Laser hair removal solves that problem for you. You’ll have silky smooth skin and be free of the chore of endless shaving. But laser hair removal isn’t only for women.
More men are using laser hair removal to shed heavy hair on their shoulders and back to eliminate the cave man appearance. It’s also a great way to eliminate razor burn and ingrown hairs.
Laser hair removal is one of the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatments in the United States and around the globe. It’s proven safe and effective over a number of decades. It’s replaced the messy and painful waxing that predated laser technology.
Our expert medical aesthetician staff at A Beautiful You Medical Spa, under the direction of board-certified physician Kenneth Thompson, MD, has many years of experience in providing laser hair removal services.
What happens during laser hair removal?
We apply a gel to the treatment area, then place the hand-held laser device on your skin. The laser targets your hair follicles, and its heat destroys their cellular structure, stopping hair growth. You don’t see hair shedding immediately; it occurs over the next few weeks.
The gel feels cool while you also experience warm sensations that may feel like pinpricks. Immediately after the procedure, we apply a steroid cream if needed. You can also apply ice packs at home if you feel any discomfort.
How many laser hair removal sessions do I need?
Depending on the areas to be treated, it takes anywhere from four to six sessions to remove the hair. Hair grows in stages, so it takes repeated sessions with the laser to destroy the hair follicles at the most optimum stage for long-term removal.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
For those hair follicles whose structure is destroyed, the loss is permanent. Not every single hair follicle may be destroyed, so some hairs regrow eventually. Those that do grow back are usually lighter and very fine in texture.
But laser hair removal retards hair growth for very long periods — from months to years. Plan on infrequent maintenance visits once you achieve hair loss in the desired areas.
A maintenance visit once a year is more efficient than spending hours every other day shaving your legs and under your arms and frees you of an entire aspect of your self-care and beauty routine.
