All About Opus Plasma Treatments

Does your skin need a do-over? Does your neck look like a six-lane highway with horizontal grooves across it?

If you’re not happy with your facial appearance or other body area where your skin is lax, you may be looking into skin rejuvenation. Has your skin lost some of its elasticity, and fine lines and wrinkles are beginning to define it? Check out a newer entry to the market, Opus Plasma®.

Board-certified physician Kenneth Thompson, MD, with A Beautiful You Medical Spa has invested in Opus Plasma’s newer technology to offer our patients the latest advance in skin rejuvenation techniques available today.

What is Opus Plasma?

For a number of years, the skin resurfacing market has offered fractional resurfacing lasers or radiofrequency ablation.

The Opus system doesn’t use a laser to resurface your skin. Instead, it features fractional plasma technology combined with radiofrequency ablation for superior results. What does all of that mean in lay language?

Lasers use light waves to produce heat energy that penetrates the skin. The Opus Plasma system uses plasma energy instead. It’s a gas that’s been ionized, or given energy, and it’s actually a fourth state of matter.

Plasma energy is all around you; the sun is a ball of plasma. Opus also uses radiofrequency ablation, which creates tiny wounds in your skin and activates your immune system to rush healing nutrients to the area.

How does Opus Plasma work to improve my skin?

The plasma energy combines with radiofrequency ablation in the Opus system. Plasma energy works close to the skin’s surface and helps smooth away those fine lines and wrinkles — think of an electric sander.

The Opus’ handheld device also contains tiny, short needles that contain radiofrequency energy. It produces micro-wounds in your skin, similar to microneedling. The radiofrequency waves enable the plasma’s effects to reach deep into your skin, stimulating collagen production, which tightens your loose skin.

The action of the two different methodologies — plasma and radiofrequency energy — produces excellent skin tightening results along with skin resurfacing in one treatment.

What is the advantage of Opus over laser skin resurfacing?

Opus Plasma has several advantages when compared with laser skin resurfacing.

Treats tender areas around the eye

Laser treatments require strong safety measures around your eyes. We can use the Opus Plasma much closer to your eyes than lasers, so it can really take care of those fine lines on either side of your eyes.

Faster procedure

Laser resurfacing of only part of your face takes at least 30-45 minutes. Treating your entire face can take up to two hours. On the other hand, Opus Plasma can complete a facial treatment within 10-15 minutes. Which procedure would you rather have?

Less downtime

Laser skin resurfacing involves a fairly lengthy recovery period: 10-21 days. Your skin peels after five to seven days. In addition, your skin may still be red for two or three months after the treatment.

With the Opus Plasma treatment, your skin peels in about three days. You see results in the tone and texture of your skin after just one procedure, in about seven days.
