Start Getting Ready for Summer Now with Laser Hair Removal

Are you longing for summer now? In March, warm weather is just around the corner. Soon you’ll be showing a lot more bare skin than you are now, wearing shorts and sleeveless tops.

If you dread shaving the winter fur away, it’s time to let our expert laser aestheticians whisk that hair away under the direction of board-certified physician Dr. Kenneth Thompson. At A Beautiful You Medical Spa, we’re ready to eliminate that unwanted hair for you — permanently.

No matter if you’re a man or a woman and no matter where the unwanted hair is, we have the solution you’ve been seeking.

March is the perfect time to get your body ready for warmer weather. It’s not too soon to start the laser hair removal process. We’ll explain why.

How long does it take to complete laser hair removal?

There’s a good reason why we’re advising you to start laser hair removal now rather than wait until summer. Hair grows in different phases, so we can’t capture all of your hair in one laser hair removal session.

You may need two to eight sessions, and each session is scheduled six to eight weeks apart.

How should I prepare for laser hair removal?

You receive complete written instructions at your consultation. Avoid the sun a few weeks before the procedure because tanned skin makes the process less effective.

Shave the area to be treated two or three days before the procedure. Don’t touch the area after that — meaning no waxing or tweezing.

What happens during a laser hair removal appointment?

We ask you to clean your body thoroughly before the appointment. When you’re here, we clean it again, since you’ve come into contact with bacteria on the way to the office.

We can apply a numbing gel to the area being treated. There’s a wait of 30-60 minutes until the area is numb.

We use a room designed only for laser procedures. You and our expert staff wear protective eyewear. We place the handheld laser device over your skin. If you’ve chosen not to receive the numbing gel, you might feel tiny pinpricks on your skin.

The laser’s heat vaporizes your hair, so you may see a little smoke and detect an odor. All of that is normal.

How long does a laser hair removal session last?

The length of the session depends on how much hair we need to remove and where that hair is located. If you’re a woman having the hair above your lip removed, it only takes minutes. On the other hand, if you’re having your legs treated, the procedure may take about an hour.

After laser hair removal

Use cold compresses on the treated area to reduce any swelling and pain, both of which are normal side effects. Over-the-counter pain medication is fine if you need it. Keep the area away from sunlight. Other than that, you can resume your normal day immediately.
